The tensile test is a destructive mechanical test that subjects a material specimen to an increasing uniaxial tensile force until it breaks. Used to determine the material’s mechanical properties (strength, elasticity, ductility), the test produces a stress-strain diagram that is fundamental to engineering design and quality control.
A specimen, often shaped like a “dog bone,” is stretched by a universal testing machine until it breaks.
The machine records the applied force (\(F\)) and the elongation of the material, plotting the stress–strain curve.
Yield strength (\(R_{e}\)): The stress at which plastic (permanent) deformation begins.
Tensile strength (\(R_{m}\)): The maximum stress the material can withstand before breaking.
Elongation at break (\(A\%\)): A measure of the material’s ductility.
ISO 6892-1 (metals), ASTM E8/E8M, and ISO 527-1 (plastics) standardize the test specimens and procedure.
This test is essential for metallic and polymeric materials, allowing for an assessment of their suitability for the intended use. Tensile tests are essential in nearly all manufacturing and engineering sectors, including automotive (structural components), aerospace (lightweight materials), construction (steel, concrete), medical (prosthetics, sutures), and energy. They verify strength, yield strength, and elasticity, ensuring quality and safety.

The base features a slotted test surface for securing testing fixtures and equipment.Two-column testing machine equipped with a servo-hydraulic actuator mounted above the upper crosshead and a slotted support base.
The load cell can be mounted either on the actuator or on the lower crosshead.Testing system designed for the characterization of rail fastening systems.
The system is designed to perform the following tests:Two-column testing machine equipped with an electric actuator mounted on the upper crosshead and a slotted lower support base.
The load cell can be mounted either on the actuator or on the support base. The machine provides very high dynamic performance, with frequencies of up to 80 Hz.Uniaxial mechanical testing machine for tensile, creep and stress relaxation testing of metallic materials.
The machine features a high-stiffness four-column frame with vibration-isolated supports and an actuator mounted on the lower crosshead for servo-controlled load application. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONSSelf-centering hydraulic wedge grips with a one-piece steel body, suitable for tensile and compression testing as well as load cycles around zero, with forces of up to 100 kN.
Supplied with:Mechanical grips for flat and/or round specimens, operating on a screw-clamping principle.
The grips are manufactured from 39NiCrMo3 quenched and tempered steel with a blued surface treatment, making them suitable for fatigue testing with loads of up to 20 kN. The gripping surfaces feature a knurled clamping system. Maximum gripping width: 30 mm Supplied with:Slow strain rate testing machine with a two-column floor-standing load frame and an electric actuator mounted on the lower base.
The load cell can be mounted either on the electric actuator or on the crosshead. Test speed range: 0.001 to 5 mm/min at 100 kN.Uniaxial load frame designed to withstand maximum loads of 30 MN in both compression and tension for testing structural components.
The frame is equipped with a fixed lower crosshead and a movable upper crosshead, allowing adjustment of the available test clearance. The upper crosshead is moved by four servo-hydraulic actuators rigidly connected to the two crossheads. These actuators also apply the test load to the specimen by controlling the displacement of the upper crosshead.FPF 100 kN – Four-Column Uniaxial Testing Machine for Railway Pad Testing
