Rotating bending tests

Home » By Test Type » Rotating bending tests

Rotating bending tests are fundamental fatigue tests used to determine the strength limit of metallic materials and components (such as shafts and axles) subjected to alternating load cycles. By simulating continuous rotation, they generate cyclic tensile and compressive stresses to predict fatigue life.

Main application sectors:
  • Automotive:

Verification of the durability of drive shafts, connecting rods, half-shafts, and structural components subjected to variable loads.

  • Aerospace:

Testing of critical materials to ensure their reliability under extreme operating conditions.

  • Biomedical:

Analysis of the fatigue resistance of prostheses, bone screws, and medical devices.

  • General Mechanical Engineering:

Validation of rotating components in industrial machinery. The test concludes when the specimen fails, allowing the fatigue curve (Wöhler curve) to be plotted and the load limit to be determined.

PROJECTS:

  • Rotating Bending – RB35

    Constant-load rotating bending testing machine.

The testing system generates four-point bending with a constant bending moment along the specimen axis, while allowing continuous adjustment of the rotational speed around the longitudinal axis. The electromechanical testing machine is integrated into a tubular steel base and equipped with a protective polycarbonate enclosure. Test operation, control and data management are performed from a dedicated control console.
